RICK ARNOLD
Bass & Guitar

 

You may have seen Rick behind the counter selling you your favorite musical items. Rick is our Bass Teacher on Thursday's and behind the counter on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. SCOTT ARNOLD
Bass & Guitar

 

Scott Arnold started playing guitar in 1966 and also wanted to play the bass guitar and switched to bass guitar for two years because of the Beatles appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show. Scott moved on to be fanatical about Paul Revere and The Raiders.  Scott played throughout high school with multiple rock and country bands including Swannee Caldwell for six years. Scott's influences on guitar have been John McLaughlin, Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix, Scott Henderson, Danny Gatton, Roy Buchanan, Alan Holdsworth and many more! Scott currently plays in Southern Thumb student bands (Soon 2 Be and 14 Strings), classic rock band Tenacious Red and jazz trio A Train. Scott has been a teacher at Southern Thumb for 18 years.

 

JIMMY DEHENO
Guitar & Banjo

 

Jimmy is from Marine City, Michigan.  He is a three time top finisher in the Great Lakes song writing contest.  First place and two time alternate first place winner in the Walnut Valley (Winfield) new song show case.  Jimmy is also one of the top five finalists in the International Finger-style guitar competition and second place winner in the Gamble Rogers Finger-style guitar competition. Jimmy continues to study and perform on guitar, banjo, dobro and pedal steel guitar locally, nationally and internationally as well. Jimmy has been teaching at Southern Thumb for over five years.

 

TAYLOR BATORY
Guitar

 

Taylor Batory has been playing guitar for 7 years. and is currently taking music classes and well as his own guitar lessons at Wayne State University. Taylor is enrolled in music theory, ear training and piano class. He hoping to enter the music technology program at Wayne State University to learn how to record and mix music.

 

Taylor has managed to record a few songs on his own, but would like to learn as much as he can about live recording and music synthesis. Outside of school, he enjoys writing music and jamming with his friends. Taylor currently finishing an album that he wrote and already has plans to start another. 

 

DRUM TEACHERS

Drums

 

Rick is not only an accomplished teacher and musician, he also has a great deal of product knowledge as a result of his providing seminars for the likes of Fender and other noted manufacturers.

DAVE CHENEY
Drums

 

Dave Cheney has been playing drums for 29 years. He has a B.A. in Music Education from Michigan State University and has 20 years of percussion teaching experience; marching band, drum corps, drum set, concert percussion and hand drumming. His education based playing experiences include high school band and three years marching in top 12 drum and bugle corps. At M.S.U. Dave played two years in the marching band drumline, the jazz bands, symphony band, Latino combo, blues combo, competition drumline, and African drum and dance ensemble. 

 

 

CAMERON MILLER
Drums

PAUL KRWY
Drums

 

Paul has been a professional musician for the last fifteen years; not only playing but teaching as well.  He has an extended knowledge in all styles of music and interjects his experience into all of his lessons.  Whether it's 
performing live or recording he has done it all.  Paul has been affiliated with Southern Thumb Music and Huber and Breese Music family since his childhood drum lessons where he went on to win numerous awards through the American Guild of Music under both Southern Thumb and Huber and Breese Studio's. Paul has played with many groups over the years; Spider The Cat (SVR Records), Rodney Bartlett Project, Sofa Kings Band, The Dyna Brass and currently he is with The George Brothers Band.

PIANO TEACHERS

SHAWN GRAHAM
Piano

 

Shawn has been playing piano for 32 years with 10 years of private piano instruction. She has taken music classes at Macomb Community College. Shawn has been a piano instructor for 25 years and is a member of the American guild of Music.

 

Shawn is a junior choir director at Trinity Lutheran Church in Richmond and enjoys paling for weddings and receptions.

 

 

CHRISTINE AUGUGILARO
Piano

 

Christina has been involved in music since the age of 6, when she started singing in a children’s choir.  She started taking piano lessons at age 9 and by age 16 was teaching beginner’s piano.  

 

She continued to teach lessons while attending Michigan State and after graduating in 2005, joined the Southern Thumb family. Christina is experienced with students ranging from age 6 to late adulthood.

 

JEANNIE PALIN
Piano

 

Jeannie has worked with children almost all her life. First as a teachers' assistances, then through the St Clair County 4-H program. Also as the MI Director for the  APA-ABA associations youth program.

Eric is professional musician and has over 41 years of experience composing music for piano in addition to 29 years

BABE MURMYLUK
Sax, Clarinet, Trumpet & Violin

 

Babe Murmyluk has been teaching well, for many years and he is an awesome teacher here at Southern Thumb. Babe teaches most of the brass and wind instruments and also the violin. Want a great teacher, Babe is your guy!!

PAUL FRIESEN-CARPER
Voice

 

Paul Friesen-Carper believes that music-making helps us be more human and loves to help people strengthen their musicality. His musical experience ranges from fronting rock bands to directing choirs, from recording as a singer/songwriter/guitarist to singing opera, and from playing in folk-dance bands to leading music for national church gatherings.
